Those of you who have been following our blog for the last year and a half know that I got most of my kitchen inspiration from my mother. Four years ago today marked the end of her earthly life and the end of my 10 years of care-giving to her. Mom loved her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ . She was a joy to care for even though there were days much more difficult than others! I am thankful that she loved me in spite of my faults and mistakes. I have many memories of her that always make me smile!
Mom enjoyed cooking, but she excelled in baking! She made an amazing lemon meringue pie; coffee cakes; and chocolate chip cookies! The cookie jar in our house was always full! I first attempted to make chocolate chip cookies by myself at age 7 or 8. I was so pleased with myself when I finally got the first tray in the oven that I ran to my mom and told her about it. Together we eagerly awaited the timer to go off so we could view that first tray of hot cookies. Imagine my dismay when I opened the oven to find that all the cookies had run together and had made quite a mess on the pan! I had totally forgotten to add the flour mixture to the wet mixture! Mom quieted my sobs and helped me mix the flour into the the remaining wet mixture so that we could salvage the rest of the cookies!
In this picture you will see the cookie jar on the right. It is the one I mentioned in the post “Cookie Jars and Rolling Pins.” It was in this kitchen where I made that first batch of chocolate chip cookies!
